First Year Experience
POD encourages and supports the professional foundation
provided through the First Year Experience for all full-time employees.
The First Year Experience includes three initiatives:
The New Faculty Seminar is a two day interactive
presentation on classroom methodologies and management that includes
an overview of the historical and philosophical perspective of
the comprehensive community college.
Orientation for New Faculty and Staff, a semester-long program,
is designed to inform new employees about expectations (performance
review and promotion), responsibilities, and opportunities (professional
development). The orientation also introduces the new faculty
and staff to the leadership of WKCTC.
Introducing Excellence: A Mentor Program for New Employees provides new
faculty, staff, and management personnel with the opportunity to learn
from the experience of established mentors so they may be better able to
understand the culture of the institution and the requirements of their
jobs.
